The changes made by MXTX in the revised edition have only enhanced the story of TGCF. It is significantly streamlined in some sections which seemed to originally be burdened with multiple plot lines and characters. For fans of the book, as I am, the revised edition places a more focused spotlight on Xie Lian and Hua Cheng's relationship and all the fateful happenings that introduce them, separate them, and ultimately bring them together. I never thought I would be able to read a properly translated version of the revised edition. So thankful to SmoothReads for all the hard work.

Note - there are no spoilers in this, just references to story elements. First of all, I'm so grateful to Clearnoodle and this extension for allowing me to easily read the uncensored revised version! The previous version was already my favorite book. So to have MXTX's final vision go even beyond that is wonderful. And this translation is excellent! There were a lot of unnecessary things cut out; mostly small things in the phrasing and individual sentences, but also a few large ones, such as the ghost Lang Ying, and certain characters' presence in Mt. Tonglu. There were also big revisions to the Gilded Banquet and Brocade Immortal arcs, and perhaps others I'm not recalling now. All of those were improvements, in my opinion, making the writing tighter and more engaging, some scenes more impactful, and some characters improved in their portrayal. There were some things removed that I do miss, like the scenes with Xie Lian's parents in Xianle, and a few other little scenes such as Xie Lian in the bathtub in Puqi Shrine (and to deal with that, I am just keeping them in my memory as canon, since they don't clash with anything in this version). And there is one aspect of Xie Lian's character that I preferred in the previous version. But the added parts (the 100K extra words) were very sweet and fun. And for first time readers, I would say that their experience will overall be much better, or at the least definitely not worse, than if they read the previous version.

The changes in this revised edition compared to the original serialized version (i.e. the Seven Seas edition) are quite extensive! They are scattered throughout the series, and ranged from word edits to significant plots changes. It's clear that MXTX had put a lot of effort into the revision and really cared about her craft. MXTX added a lot more interactions between hualian, and cut out many irrelevant / meandering parts. This version feels much cleaner, tighter, and faster paced than the original serialized version. For more general info on the revised edition, such as why there is a revised a edition, you can check out this [FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/tianguancifu/comments/19bmw9o/faq_tgcf_revised_edition/). And [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/tianguancifu/comments/1gfoc11/some_differences_in_writing_between_the_original/) is my long rant about the differences in writing, instead of plot, between the original and revised editions : )

I’m so thankful to finally read the latest revised version of TGCF! After so much FOMO from not being able to read the revised, uncensored Chinese version that came out in March, this is truly a blessing!!! The new details are incredible, and Smooth Reads came in like a true gift. The translation is great! Very smooth indeed! MXTX is truly a genius, and it’s a privilege to experience the story as close to the original as possible while being able to support the author directly. Beyond the big changes, there are also subtle updates that make it worth reading all over again—it almost feels like experiencing it anew. I’m absolutely thrilled!
